The Hunan Health Commission announced that, in accordance with the national deployment, Hunan started COVID-19 vaccination for the group aged between 12 and 14 years old on August 9. Vaccination for those between 15 and 17 years old began from August 1.

The people aged between 12 and 17 years old are required to get vaccinated at vaccination sites, accompanied by their guardians or school faculty. Schools need to coordinate and organize vaccination for those eligible, in line with the requirements of related authorities.

Inactivated vaccines (vero cell) developed by the Sinopharm Beijing, including its Chengdu, Lanzhou, and Changchun institutes, and the Sinovac Life Sciences, will be provided for this group. Clinical research data shows that, teenagers can achieve antibody level similar to that of adults, after getting vaccinated. The vaccines demonstrated good safety records.

When entering vaccination sites, the teenage vaccine recipients and their guardians should show their health codes, have their temperatures taken, wear masks, and keep one-meter distance. After getting vaccinated, people should maintain good self-protection and personal hygiene, such as wearing masks, washing hands and ventilating frequently, avoiding gathering, and keeping social distance.

Teenagers can participate in mass appointments through their schools; or, make appointments by their guardians, and go to the vaccination sites with the guardians’ company. The guardians can make appointments through calls, on-site registration, and WeChat public accounts of the vaccination units. They are suggested to attach close attention to the notifications of local vaccination units, and get vaccinated at nearby sites.

Concentrated vaccination for students should be determined based on coordination between schools and vaccination units. An appointment in advance is necessary.
