The Hunan Department of Commerce announced that, in the coming years, Hunan will coordinate construction of logistics channels and five main freight hubs across the province. Concentrated efforts will be made to build five international freight hubs, and achieve an integrated development of industries, industrial parks, ports, channels, and markets.
The five main freight hubs are:
- A regional international air freight hub based on Changsha and linking with Zhangjiajie, and Changde airports. It will operate intercontinental routes to Europe, America, and Australia, and expand freight routes to Africa, so as to form an international freight network combining passenger and freight transportation.
- A China-Europe Freight Train (Changsha) hub based on province-wide links. It will serve the China-Europe Freight Train operation, and improve services of the Changsha station.
- A river-maritime freight hub in Chenglingji, Yueyang. It will improve operation of the direct routes to Hong Kong, and the routes to Japan, South Korea, and Australia.
- A Hunan-Guangdong-Africa railway-maritime freight hub in Zhuzhou. It connects with the main railway stations around the country via the railway network, and directly links to Guangzhou’s Nansha and Shenzhen’s Shekou ports. It will help build a network of trade with African countries, and develop a southward international maritime channel.
- A freight hub in Huaihua to serve the trade with ASEAN countries. It connects with the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor in western China. It will enhance railway-maritime freight between Huaihua and the Beibu Gulf, operate cross-border train and truck from Hunan to ASEAN countries, and get through a southwestward international maritime channel.
In the first half of this year, Hunan’s airports have served 13 freight routes, operated 708 international all-cargo flights, and transported 42,700 tons of cargos worth 1.787 billion USD. The number of flights, cargos, and value increased by 149.77%, 251.69%, and 130.47% respectively. A total of 384 China-Europe freight trains were operated in the province, up 43.3 % over last year. The value of their cargos hit 1.223 billion USD, rising by 23.93% year on year. Yueyang’s Chenglingji Port had handled 308,000 TEUs, growing by 50.98%.
