The envoys of Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Uganda in China came to the Hunan Gaoqiao Grand Market on July 22, to promote coffee of their countries.
This is a warm-up event of the 2nd China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, with the aim to boost China-Africa coffee industrial chain development.
Coffee of these countries are loved by customers for their relatively low caffeic acid concentration and mellow flavor. Thirty-one types of coffee are recommended this time, including Arabica from Kenya and Ethiopia, and Robusta coffee bean from Uganda.
China’s coffee market is expanding rapidly. The African Coffee Street in the Gaoqiao Grand Market, one of the first projects in the China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Innovation Demonstration Park, opened last August. More than 20 coffee vendors and over 20 enterprises with leading coffee brands operate in this park of more than 10,000 sqm. There is a special area for African coffee beans. The vendors are agent for many world-class brands, such as Nestle, Couss, and Grant, and introduced quality coffee raw materials from Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and other African countries. African coffee display area can be found in every store, providing retail and wholesale services. As of July 22, the business transactions volume of the coffee street has exceeded one billion CNY.
A distribution and processing industrial park for the non-resource products from Africa is planned to be built in Liuyang. The park and the Gaoqiao Grand Market will jointly build a quality African coffee roasting and processing base; a platform for African coffee research and development, experience, and appreciation; and, a coffee cultural tourism resort. These will further promote African coffee business in Chinese market.
