Xu Dazhe, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People’s Congress, and Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, met in Changsha with Hu Zucai, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), on July 20, 2021. Hu came to attend the on-site meeting on prominent environmental problems rectification along the Yangtze River Economic Belt and a meeting on China Three Gorges Corporation participating in well-coordinated environmental conservation of the Yangtze River.

Secretary Xu thanked NDRC for its long-term care and support for Hunan's economic and social development. He said that in recent years, Hunan government has implemented Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization; shouldered the political responsibility of “protecting the Yangtze River”; and, implemented the “Yangtze River Conservation Law”. It has, pushed forward full implementation of the river and chief system, promoted the special rectification of the shoreline of the Hunan section of the Yangtze River and the comprehensive management of the “one lake and four rivers” ecological environment. The Yangtze River ecological environmental protection has achieved initial results.

The whole province is now following the direction guided by President Xi Jinping, to implement the Three Highlands and Four New Missions Strategy and build a modern new Hunan. It is necessary to prioritize ecological conservation and pursue a green and low-carbon path to development, and demonstrate a renewed sense of responsibility in protecting the ecological environment of the Yangtze River and promoting the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. We expected NDRC to continue to give more guidance and support to Hunan Province. We will, in accordance with the decisions and arrangements made by the central government, and the requirements of the on-site meetings held in Hunan Province, pay close attention to the rectification of outstanding problems in the ecological environment of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, draw inferences from one another to establish a long-term mechanism for ecological environmental protection, and make contributions to the construction of a clean and beautiful Yangtze River in Hunan Province, he added.

Deputy Director Hu remarked that the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the People’s Government of Hunan Province have insisted on facing up to the problems rather than evading them, and implementing rectification and reforms without slackening the protection of the Yangtze River. Hunan has made efficient and fruitful results on the work of the Yangtze River protection work. The protection is a long-term systematic project, which requires us to advance it together and strengthen the linkage with each other to form a joint force for a long time. He promised that NDRC will continue to support Hunan Province in carrying out the protection and restoration of the ecological environment in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, thus helping Hunan achieve better and faster development.
