The world’s first 120-ton AC-drive electric mining dumper with electric wheels was rolled off the production line in Xiangtan, and then transported to Inner Mongolia, on June 23, 2021. It was developed by Xiangtan Electric Manufacturing Group Co., Ltd. (XEMC), a time-honored state-owned enterprise in Xiangtan.

The dumper, based on a pure-electric power system, energy management system, and AC drive system, is powered by battery instead of conventional diesel engine. One-hour charging can support 8-hour continuous operation. It can cut energy consumption by 50%, and maintenance cost by 20%, compared with conventional 100-ton fuel dampers. A single dumper can reduce 1,500 tons of carbon dioxide emission every year.

XEMC gave play to its mechatronic advantages, and made use of various resources, to achieve breakthroughs in key and core technologies. For instance, its subsidiary Xiangtan Electric Manufacturing Group developed the wheel hub motor and electric drive and control system with independent intellectual property, and collaborated with a domestic battery producer to develop energy management system. Innovations have been made in various advanced technologies, which obviously improved the overall performance. The dumper is simple in structure, and has good power and brake performances. It features high reliability, convenient maintenance, low noise, and comfort. Its rolling off the production line marked a start of improving existing mining equipment and new energy vehicles, and will contribute to construction of safe, energy-saving, and intelligent mines in China.
