Hunan has 10 more featured agricultural products approved as national geographical indication (GI) products by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The Hunan Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced that on June 15, 2021.
The ten agricultural products are: Hutianshi goat; Anhua pine needle; Rucheng Baimao Tea; Huarong Rice; Yuanjiang Rice; Dachong chili; Baiguan towel gourd; Luozhou wax gourd; Ningxiang gardenia; and, Lixian Shi Chang Pu (Acorus tatarinowii Schott). Such honor would be a tremendous advertisement for these products.
There are 126 agricultural GI products in Hunan so far, including 32 vegetables; 26 fruits; 15 tea products; 13 rice and edible oil products; 17 poultry and livestock products; 10 aquatic products; and, 13 traditional Chinese medicines.
A GI is a sign to show a product has a specific geographical origin and possesses qualities or a reputation due to that origin. It is a quality guarantee, which distinguishes it from its competitors. It is approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China.
