The State Council announced the 5th batch of national-level representative intangible cultural heritage programs on June 10, 2021. A total of 325 representative programs, including 185 newly-approved and 140 related ones, were on the list. Hunan has 19 programs among this batch, including 7 newly-approved and 12 related ones, ranking the third nationwide. And the total number is far more than national average.

The newly-approved representative intangible cultural heritage programs in Hunan include: 

Folk literature:
Legend of Laosicheng Site, declared by Yongshun County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture; 

Folk music:
Jiahe Wedding Song, declared by Jiahe County, Chenzhou; 

Traditional sports, martial arts, and acrobatics
Wujiaquan (Wu’s boxing), declared by Xiangtan City;
Yanying boxing, declare by Xinning County, Shaoyang; 

Traditional handicraft:
Yellow tea making technique (Junshan Yinzhen tea), declare by Junshan District, Yueyang;
Preserved fruit making technique (preserved fruit carving), applied by Jingzhou Dong Autunomous County, Huaihua; and,
Snack making technique (Fire God Palace Restaurant stinky tofu), declare by Changsha.

The related representative intangible cultural heritage programs in Hunan include: 

Traditional dance:
Dragon dance (board dragon lantern), declare by Cili County, Zhangjiajie; 

Traditional opera:
Xiang opera (Lianyuan Xiang opera), declared by Lianyuan, Loudi; 

Traditional art:
Paper cutting (Meishan paper cutting), declared by Anhua County, Yiyang;
Miao embroidery (Xiangxi Miao embroidery), declared by Huayuan County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture; 

Traditional technique:
Dong Wooden-structure Architecture Building Technique (Tongdao Dong wooden-structure architecture building technique), declared by Tongdao Dong Autonomous County, Huaihua;
Fan making technique (Yuezhou fan), declared by Yueyang County, Yueyang City;
Folk musical instrument making technique (Tanxia Township gong making technique), declare by Leiyang, Hengyang; 

Traditional medicine:
Traditional Chinese medical diagnosis and treatment (Chen’s bee therapy), declared by Chenzhou;
Traditional Chinese medicine culture (Longshan King of Medication), declared by Xinshao County, Shaoyang; 

Folk custom:
Dragon Boat Festival (Daozhou dragon boat), declared by Daoxian County, Yongzhou;
Panwang Festival of Yao Ethnic Group (redeem a vow to Panwang), declared by Zixing, Chenzhou; and,
Temple fair (Nanyue Temple Fair), declared by Nanyue District, Hengyang.
