Xu Dazhe, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee secretary and Hunan Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee director, had a discussion with Tang Renjian, Office of the Central Leading Group for Rural Work (OCLGRW) director and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) minister, in Beijing on June 1, 2021.

Liu Huanxin, OCLGRW deputy director and MARA vice minister; Wei Baigang, MARA chief economist and General Office director; and, Sui Zhongcheng, Hunan vice governor, attended.

Secretary Xu thanked OCLGRW and MARA for their long-term care and support for Hunan province. He said that Hunan is a major agricultural province and grain producer. The whole province is now, in accordance with the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s important speech made when inspecting Hunan province, integrating the work concerning agriculture, rural areas, and farmers into the “Three Highlands and Four New Missions” Strategy to arrange and implement. We have insisted on giving priority to agriculture and rural areas; intensified seed industry innovation; ensured food security; continued to consolidate and expand the achievements of poverty alleviation; comprehensively promoted rural revitalization; and, made solid progress in various key tasks with remarkable results. In the next step, we will, based on the previously-signed provincial-ministerial cooperation framework agreement, strive to create an innovation highland for seed industry and an industrial chain highland for intelligent agricultural machinery, to accelerate the high-quality development of the work concerning agriculture, rural areas, and farmers. He expected OCLGRW and MARA to provide Hunan province with stronger guidance and support in hog production, biological seed industry innovation, cultivated land protection and management, the Yangtze River fishing ban, preparations for the Central China (Hunan) Agricultural Expo, and the improvement of rural human settlements. This would assist Hunan in speeding up the agricultural modernization pace and writing a new chapter in rural revitalization.

Minister Tang remarked that Hunan government has done well in consolidating the results of poverty elimination and dovetailing new measures with rural revitalization. It has explored a series of good experiences and practices in many fields such as rural toilet reform. OCLGRW and MARA will summarize and promote them in due course. Meanwhile, we will deepen provincial-ministerial collaboration in terms of integrated agricultural industrial development projects promotion, R&D and innovation in the agricultural field, and agricultural open cooperation platforms construction, to help Hunan create a new situation in the work concerning agriculture, rural areas, and farmers, he added.
