The New First-Tier Cities Research Institute, a research institute under Chinese financial media outlet China Business Network, released its 2021 ranking of Chinese cities based on their business attractiveness on May 27. Changsha is once again among the top 10 on the list of 15 new first-tier cities.
The 15 cities are Chengdu, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Xi’an, Suzhou, Wuhan, Nanjing, Tianjin, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Dongguan, Foshan, Ningbo, Qingdao and Shenyang.
The year 2021 marked the 6th consecutive year that the ranking has been released. The New First-Tier Cities Research Institute surveyed 337 Chinese cities based on five dimensions -- concentration of commercial resources, the city as a hub, urban residential activity, lifestyle diversity and future potential. It used data from stores of 170 mainstream consumer brands, user behavior data from 17 leading Internet companies in various fields, and urban big data from data institutions, to evaluate the business attractiveness of these cities and their development in 2020.
