Secretary Xu welcomed the guests. He said that Hunan is a populous province in central China with a vast consumer market. Its opening-up advantages have become increasingly prominent, thanks to the establishment of the Hunan pilot free trade zone and the improvement of transportation infrastructure. Hunan has a solid industrial foundation. The advantageous industries such as construction machinery, rail transit, and aviation power are influential nationwide and worldwide. The high-tech industries such as new materials, electronic information, and biomedicine are developing vigorously. Hunan boasts a long history, beautiful ecology, and particularly deep-rooted red revolutionary tradition. It is the hometown of Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, and other older generation proletarian revolutionaries.
He continued, “We are now implementing the ‘Three Highlands and Four New Missions’ Strategy in accordance with the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important speech made when inspecting Hunan. Expanding opening-up and strengthening international exchanges and cooperation are important contents. The relationship between China and Cuba is special and friendly. In recent years, Hunan and Cuba have carried out a series of exchanges and collaboration, achieving good results. The two sides have shown strong complementary advantages and cooperative potential in the fields of agriculture, biomedicine, medical and health, and cultural tourism.” He expected both parties to actively respond to the "Belt and Road" Initiative, promote pragmatic cooperation in various fields, and better benefit the people of both sides.
Ambassador Pereira remarked that Cuba and China have a profound friendship, and Cuba has achieved good results in cooperation with Hunan. The China-Cuba Biotechnology Joint Innovation Center opened in Yongzhou this time is one of the important achievements. The Cuban Embassy in China is willing to continue to promote the sharing of experience between Cuba and Hunan in more areas, exchange mutual needs, and deepen cooperation, so as to make more positive contributions to the friendship between Cuba and China.
