Hunan Province began vaccination against COVID-19 since December last year, as an important task to promote epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development. The vaccination work was conducted in accordance with the unified deployment of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council. More than 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered across Hunan as of May 15 this year.
According to national overall arrangements, Hunan follows the principle of “inoculating the eligible population as widely as possible to ensure safety”. The province's vaccination program in the first phase is targeting key regions and groups, large and medium-sized cities and ports with a high risk of infection, and people living in border areas in a phased way. Currently persons aged 18 and above are eligible to get vaccination.
The Hunan Provincial Committee and the Hunan Provincial People’s Government have attached great importance to the vaccination work. The Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of Hunan Province made overall planning, precise control and scheduling, and vigorous implementation. Hunan launched mass vaccination program this May, after inoculating specific populations who deal with cold-chain imported food, have direct contact with imported goods at ports, and work at medical and health care sites or in transportation sector. The two-dose inoculation is expected to cover 40% of population by June 30. As of May 15, a total of 10.13 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered across the province, including 7.382 million receiving the first dose jab and 2.748 receiving the second one. The highest single-day number of people vaccinated reached more than 600,000.
Hunan has made efforts from four aspects to guarantee the vaccination work:
--strengthen vaccination capacity, standardize vaccination sites establishment, increase vaccination seats at old vaccination sites, set up new vaccination sites at medical institutions, open temporary vaccination sites, and set up mobile inoculation teams;
--improve vaccination information system, and develop a special COVID-19 vaccination information system;
--strengthen timely emergency response to paradoxical reactions, and coordinate superior medical resources at vaccination sites, including dispatching on-site medical rescuers, ambulances, first aid equipment and medicines, specifying designated medical institutes, and opening green channels;
--establish a daily progress report and scheduling mechanism. The provincial joint prevention and control mechanism against COVID-19 would collect information such as vaccination progress, supply, use, and storage every day, make daily report and scheduling of vaccination work, and discover and solve difficulties, to ensure the achievement of targeted goals.
In the next step, Hunan will follow the national overall plans and the Hunan Provincial Committee and the Hunan Provincial People’s Government requirements to carry out the vaccination campaign.
