On May 17, 2021, Hunan government donated epidemic prevention supplies to Vientiane Laos to assist in COVID-19 prevention and control. The supplies included N95 and disposable medical masks, nucleic acid testing kits, protective suits, and medications. Officials of the Office of Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the Consulate General of Laos in Changsha attended the donation ceremony.

China and Laos are friendly socialist neighbors linked by waters and mountains. Recently, guided by both Chinese and Lao Party and government leaders, Hunan has had lively exchanges and cooperation with Laos. Fruitful results have been achieved in high-level visits, a friendship city relationship, educational exchanges, tourism collaboration, personnel training, and anti-epidemic assistance. Hunan established province-city ties with Vientiane in November 2018. During the anti-epidemic and anti-flood fights in 2020, Hunan and Vientiane provided protective supplies, and expressed support for each other. These show the spirit of a community of shared future between China and Laos, and has consolidated the brotherhood between the two countries.

This year is the 60th anniversary of bilateral ties and the Year of China-Laos Friendship . Currently Vientiane is facing a pressing anti-epidemic situation. In response to its requests, Hunan launched a second donation to support its anti-epidemic fight, help Vientiane reinforce epidemic prevention and control, and work together against the virus.
