Changsha Included in First National “Smart City + Intelligent Connected Vehicles" Pilot Cities

The Hunan Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development announced on May 6 that, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have designated Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Changsha and Wuxi as the first group of pilot cities for the coordinated development of smart city infrastructure and intelligent connected vehicles.

The two ministries required that, pilot cities should establish a sound planning and coordination mechanism and implement funding and other supporting measures, to achieve effective results in the pilot work and form experience that can be replicated and promoted. Provincial departments of housing and urban-rural development and industry and information technology should provide stronger guidance and support for pilot cities.

The National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Changsha) Testing Zone opened in Hunan Xiangjiang New Area in June 2018. It has constructed 100-sqm public road areas, 100-km smart expressways, and a 7.8-km smart bus demonstration line which was China’s first of its kind. There are more than 35,000 5G base stations. The pioneering advantages have been transformed into industrial strengths. 

There are more than 20 industrial giants, including Huawei, Baidu, and Schaeffler, and over 340 supporting enterprises, settling and starting their business in Changsha, mainly in the Xiangjiang New Area. An intelligent connected vehicle industrial cluster is forming in an all-round way. At the end of last year, Changsha city was listed as a national internet of vehicles pilot zone.
