The Hunan Apollo Intelligent Transportation Co., Ltd announced that as of April 19, Robotaxis, the self-driving taxis, has been open for test rides in Changsha for a whole year. The autonomous driving mileage reached nearly 500,000 kilometers. It has zero accidents reported throughout the year.

Changsha is the first city in China that has introduced mass-produced L4-level Robotaxi for test rides. On April 19 last year, an Apollo Go Robotaxi hailing service was launched in Meixi Lake, Hunan Xiangjiang New Area. It offered free test rides to residents aged between 18 and 60. So far, Changsha has opened 195 Robotaxis operation stations with a range of 175 kilometers within Meixi Lake and Yanghu areas. The operation scope included 48 roads and 60 road sections, covering supermarkets, residential areas, industrial parks, office buildings, schools, hotels, scenic spots, and public entertainment venues. Nowadays, taking an autonomous-driving ride has become a part of the life of many people in Changsha.

As Robotaxi's operation range expands, Changsha has been exploring ways to promote the commercial operation of autonomous driving, and testing driverless cars. The city’s Robotaxi application demonstration project was included in Hunan’s 100 landmark projects featuring digital new infrastructure.
