A mobilization meeting on the construction of three waterway projects was held in Lixian County on April 20, 2021.

Hunan Vice Governor Chen Fei announced the launching of the three high-level waterway projects – Lishui River Shimen-Lixian section; Xiangjiang River Yongzhou-Hengyang section; and, Yuanshui River Changde-Nianyukou section.

First-class navigation marks will be equipped along the whole course of the three waterways. The projects will add 112-km 1000-ton and 213-km 2000-ton waterways, with a total investment of nearly 6.5 billion CNY. The expanded waterways will benefit northwestern and southern Hunan, and connect with the Yangtze River and the Pearl River systems. The Xiangjiang River Yongzhou-Hengyang section second phase will be built at the 1000-ton standard. The ship lock at Jinwei Isle hub will be expanded to meet the 1000-ton standard. The 61-km waterway between Wuxi and Xiangqi hubs will be improved to meet the 1000-ton standard. The construction period will be 36 months.

The Yuanshui River Changde-Nianyukou section, 213 km in length, will be renovated to meet 2000-ton standard. The construction will last for 46 months.
