Statistics from the Xingsha Customs showed that, Changsha’s total import and export value rose 44.6% year on year to 58.39 billion CNY in the first quarter, accounting for 50.7% of the province’s total. Exports totaled 38.86 billion CNY, up 60.3%; and, imports totaled 19.53 billion CNY, up 21%.
General trade value accounted for more than 70% of the city’s total foreign trade value. From January to March, Changsha’s imports and exports of general trade rose 64.6% to 44.91 billion CNY, accounting for 76.9% of the city’s total import and export value. Exports surged 81.3% to 31.87 billion CNY; and, imports climbed 34.2% to 13.04 billion CNY.
Changsha's imports and exports with major trading partners maintained growth. From January to March, Changsha’s trade volume with the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) reached 10.82 billion CNY, an increase of 49.3%; with 27 EU members 7.28 billion CNY, up 43.3%; with the United States 7.22 billion CNY, up 162.9%; and, with Belt and Road countries 17.68 billion CNY, increasing by 33%.
Private enterprises played a dominant role, while state-owned enterprises performed well. From January to March, the import and export value of private enterprises in Changsha reached 44.32 billion CNY, up 50%, accounting for 75.9% of the city's total import and export value. During this period, the import and export value of foreign-invested enterprises was 8.63 billion CNY, up 18%, accounting for 14.8% of the city’s total. The import and export value of state-owned enterprises totaled 5.36 billion CNY, up 57.2%, accounting for 9.2% of the city’s total.
The exports of mechanical and electrical products and high-tech products grew rapidly. From January to March, Changsha's exports of mechanical and electrical products reached 18.61 billion CNY, up 54.2%, accounting for 47.9% of the city's total export value. Exports of high-tech products rose 40.3% to 6.74 billion CNY during this period, accounting for 17.3% of the city’s total.
Changsha exported 4.56 billion CNY of computer and communication technology products, 3.79 billion CNY of cultural products, and 1.99 billion CNY of garments and clothing accessories in the January-March period, up 58.7%, 81.7% and 102.3%, respectively.
Mechanical and electrical products and high-tech products accounted for a large proportion among imported commodities. Changsha’s imports of mechanical and electrical products surged 11.1% to 9.32 billion CNY in the January-March period, accounting for 47.7% of the city’s total import value. Imports of high-tech products rose 25.3% to 6.77 billion CNY during this period, accounting for 34.7% of the city’s total.
