The Changsha Municipal People’s Government held a press conference on April 14. It announced that, Changsha will take the lead in cooperating with three online mapping service providers --Tencent, Baidu and AutoNavi, to make government data open and offer more accurate location information.

Zhang Wu, director of the Changsha Data Resources Management Bureau, introduced that, after in-depth field investigations and discussions, the bureau sorted out some 200 types of data that can be shared with mapping service providers. The first group of 36 items of data in 14 categories, such as door numbers, roads, buses, scenic spots and public toilets, were provided to Tencent, Baidu and AutoNavi through the data sharing and exchange platform “Changsha City Super Brain” in early April. Upon receiving the data, the three mapping service providers launched a campaign to check location information. So far, 40,905 pieces of incorrect location information have been removed, 3,812 new location information added, and 19,321 location information corrected. This further improved the accuracy of map location information.

The Changsha government will give full play to the role of the “Changsha City Super Brain” as a data center and establish a long-term mechanism for online mapping data update. Data such as standard QR code addresses, real-time urban traffic, key business districts, supermarkets and markets, merchant registration information, cultural and tourism venues and facilities, will be provided to mapping service providers in batches, after going through the process of cleaning, desensitization and encryption.
