On April 13, 2021, the Hunan Provincial People’s Government and the
National Health Commission held a teleconference and reached an agreement on
jointly building a national medical center and a regional medical center.
Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Hunan governor, and Ma Xiaowei, director of the National Health Commission, attended and addressed the conference.
Wang Hesheng, deputy director of the National Health Commission, Tian Hongqi, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of the Central South University, and Wang Qun, secretary general of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government, were present.
Governor Mao expressed gratitude to the National Health Commission for its long-term supports to Hunan’s healthcare undertakings. In recent years, Hunan has thoroughly implemented President Xi Jinping’s instructions on healthcare and epidemic prevention and control, deepened reform of the medicine and healthcare system, and improved quality and efficiency of medical service system. Works have been done in promoting full coverage of clinics in villages and general practitioners in townships and towns; expanding medical resources and improving medical care service; and, achieving major strategic success in fighting against the COVID-19 epidemic.
Mao added that, Hunan will take this opportunity to boost high quality development of healthcare undertakings. We will strengthen high-level medical personnel cultivation and introduction, and increase investment in equipment and facilities in hospitals that were jointly built, to improve their functions and customized and intelligent levels. We should accelerate cooperation outcome and improve cooperation mechanism, to assist the building of the “new highland of scientific and technological innovation with core competitiveness”, improve quality of life, and contribute to the building of a Healthy China.
According to the agreement, 10 high-level hospitals in Hunan will participate in the co-building tasks:
- The National Clinical Research Center for Mental Disorders of the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, and the Brain Hospital of Hunan Province, will found a national psychologic medical center;
- The Xiangya Hospital, Second Xiangya Hospital, and Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, and the Hunan Provincial People’s Hospital, will jointly build a comprehensive regional medical center;
- The Xiangya Hospital of Central South University will lead to establish a regional medical center for neurology, orthopedics, and respiration;
- The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University will join hands with the Hunan Provincial People’s Hospital to construct a regional medical center for senile diseases, and with the Changsha Municipal First Hospital to build a regional medical center for infectious diseases; and,
- The Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University and the Hunan Provincial Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital will found a regional medical center for maternal and child health care.
