Changsha’s cultural tourism sector continued to heat up during the Qingming Festival holiday, despite the rainy weather during the three-day holiday. The provincial cultural tourism industry statistics and monitoring system showed, as of 14 o'clock on April 5, Changsha’s 30 provincially-monitored units including A-level scenic spots, rural tourist areas, museums, libraries, cultural centers received 675,519 tourist trips, a year-on-year growth of 118.21%.
According to online travel service provider Qunar.com, Changsha was among the top 10 cities in China in terms of hotel bookings for this year’s Qingming Festival holiday. Changsha’s Yuelu Mountain, Orange Isle, Dawei Mountain, Huaminglou Scenic Area, and Hunan Forest Botanical Garden became the most visited scenic areas. On April 4, the second day of the holiday, these scenic areas saw a large stream of visitors. Yuelu Mountain and Hunan Forest Botanical Garden’s reservations on that day reached their maximum carrying capacity.
Changsha’s red tourism attractions became increasingly popular during the holiday. The Yuelu Mountain, Orange Isle, Huaminglou Scenic Area and Yang Kaihui Memorial Hall were on the city’s top 6 rankings in terms of tourist receptions. Many tourists went to revolutionary memorial halls to pay tribute to martyrs and receive revolutionary and patriotism education. On April 4, the day of Qingming Festival, the Yuelu Mountain Scenic Area offered free tour guide services to tourists at the Aiwan Pavilion, and the Tombs of Huang Xing and Cai E during the periods from 10:00 to 11:00 and from 14:30 to 15: 30. Visitors learned about glorious deeds of revolutionary predecessors including Mao Zedong, Huang Xing and Cai E. Wreaths, flower baskets and elegiac couplets from tourists, schools and residents were laid.
