Secretary Xu Meets with World Bank China Director Martine Raiser

Xu Dazhe, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee secretary and Hunan Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee director, met in Changsha with Martin Raiser, World Bank’s Country director for China, on March 30, 2021.

Secretary Xu welcomed the guests. He introduced that Hunan province has beautiful landscapes, profound historical heritage, and rich revolutionary cultural resources. In recent years, it has maintained a steady and progressive development momentum, and the people’s sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security has been continuously improved. He noted that Hunan government is now implementing the Three Highlands and Four New Missions Strategy, and striving to build a modern new Hunan, in accordance with the goals set by President Xi Jinping for the province. Hunan people are making concerted efforts to carry forward the tradition of upholding morality and innovation spirit as a part of the Huxiang culture, and meet the practical requirements of new development stage, ideas, and paradigm.

He continued, “Hunan province is where the targeted poverty alleviation strategy was initiated. We will align efforts to consolidate and expand the achievements in poverty alleviation with efforts to promote rural revitalization. We will promote ecological civilization and pollution prevention, focus on preventing and dissolving government debt risks, make every effort to do well in education, medical, health and other livelihood matters, and strive solve the problem of unbalanced and insufficient development based on urban-rural and regional coordination”. He expected the World Bank will continue to care about the development of Hunan province, and provide stronger financial support in the fields of advanced manufacturing, rural revitalization, and pollution prevention, based on the 40-year cooperation foundation of the two sides, to achieve win-win results, he added.

Director Raiser believed that Hunan has created good experience in the fields of agricultural and rural development, water pollution control, and cultural and tourism integrated business. “We will further accelerate the progress of cooperation projects with Hunan, increase mutual trust, expand consensus, and deepen collaboration with Hunan in terms of green development and improving fiscal and taxation quality, and continue to contribute to Hunan's economic and social development,” he said.

Provincial leaders Xie Jianhui and Zhang Jianfei attended.
