The Hunan Provincial Consumer Rights Protection Committee was officially inaugurated on March 11, 2021. Huang Guanchun, Hunan Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee CPC Leadership Group deputy secretary and deputy director, and Hunan Provincial Consumers Council director, attended the unveiling ceremony.

The Hunan Provincial Consumers Association was approved to be established by the Hunan Provincial People's Government on February 7, 1991, and later was renamed into the Hunan Provincial Consumers Council. In May 2020, it was approved to be renamed as the Hunan Provincial Consumer Rights Protection Committee by the provincial government. Over the past 30 years, the organization has been improved, with the rights protection team increased, the fields of rights protection broadened, and the effectiveness of rights protection enhanced. It now has formed a five-level consumer rights protection network: the provincial committee as the leader, the municipal and prefectural committees as the backbones, the county and district committees as the foundations, the grassroots branches as the tentacles, and the industry consumer complaint and the corporate consumer rights protection service stations as the supplements.

The 2021 “March 15” World Consumer Rights Day Symposium was held after the unveiling ceremony. It reviewed the achievements made since the establishment of the organization, and asked to play its good role as an important platform, unite all the strengths of the society, and enhance consumption rights protection. it’s important to build a consumer rights protection social co-governance pattern in which enterprises, society, governments, and consumers participate in. Focusing on building a new development paradigm, it’s necessary to further strengthen consumer rights protection and optimize the consumption environment so that the people can truly, willing to, and dare to consume, so as to provide a strong driving force for economic growth.

This year, the committee will carry out the Consumer Rights Protection Year activity themed “Safe and Smooth Consumption”.
