As temperature warms in Hunan Province, March is a good time for planting trees. Have you ever thought about adopting a tree to protect the environment?
The 2021 ‘Adopt a Tree’ Program kicks off at the Yuelu Mountain and Orange Isle Scenic Area on March 12. The Yuelu Mountain Scenic Area Administration Bureau will also launch a series of activities to mark a year of culture and tourism and celebrate the centennial of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
The program is open to individuals and organizations. Adopters may make field visits to Lushan, Orange Isle, and Xianjia Lake scenic areas before submitting application. Adopters will be granted a certificate and they can erect a sign with their names on it without disturbing the surroundings.
People may adopt:
--100 maple trees, 3 sweet-scented osmanthus trees, or 10 camellia trees planted near the Aiwan Pavilion, 40 camellia trees along the sightseeing corridor, and 300 plum trees in the Yuelu Mountain tea garden;
--more than 500 peach trees in the Taohualing Scenic Area;
--tangerine trees on Orange Isle; and,
--100 American crabapple trees at Xianjia Lake.
The fee for adoption will be used to maintain and protect trees in these scenic areas.

Orange Isle Scenic Area
1. Adoption fee
--for organizations: 100,000 yuan per year for an area; and,
--for individuals: 600 yuan per year per tangerine tree.
