On the afternoon of March 5, the Hunan delegation to the fourth session of the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC) held its second plenary meeting in Beijing to deliberate the government work report. Chinese Vice Premier Hu Chunhua, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, attended the meeting.

Delegation head Xu Dazhe, also secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, presided over the meeting. Delegation deputy heads Mao Weiming (also Hunan governor), Li Dianxun, Wang Cheng, and Liu Lianyu, together with Du Jiahao, Fu Kui, Wang Shaofeng, Xie Yong, Chen Wenhao, Zhang Zhuohua, Hu Weilin, Tian Hongqi, and Han Yongwen, attended. Tian Liwen and Ye Xiaoying were present as non-voting delegates.

Vice Premier Hu said that the government work report fully demonstrates the spirit of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee and the Central Economic Work Conference. He added, “The report gives a comprehensive and objective review of our work over the past year and our development during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, maps out main targets and tasks for the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and makes arrangements for key work in this year's economic and social development. The report has a clear theme and comprehensive content. It is a pragmatic and inspiring report. I am all for it.”

Secretary Xu expressed full support for the government work report. He said that since the 13th Five-Year Plan, Hunan, like the rest of the country, has made hard-won achievements in various undertakings. This fully demonstrated the great power of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the remarkable superiority of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics and the national governance system.

Governor Mao said, “The Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era underpins the government work report. It is a good report for holding high the banner, forging ahead, overcoming difficulties, and uniting people. I fully agree with it.”

At the meeting, Xu Yunbo, Long Xianwen, Yang Yiwen, Shen Changjian, Liu Ge’an, Yuan Yanwen, Zhang Xuewu, Cao Zhiqiang, Li Zhihong, and other delegates also put forward suggestions and opinions on constructing the Dongting Lake Ecological Economic Zone, promoting the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy, developing seed industry, supporting the development of old revolutionary base areas, expanding agricultural machinery industry, strengthening advanced manufacturing industry, and improving community or village-level medical services.
