During the New Year’s Day holiday, the weather was fine and the festive atmosphere was strong throughout the province. Statistics from the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism showed that the 101 provincially-monitored scenic spots saw 1.8249 million tourist trips and achieved operating income of 265 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 48.01% and 37.12% respectively.

Scenic spots launched a variety of activities, which attracted many tourists. During the New Year's Day holiday, Wulingyuan core scenic area received 13,094 tourist arrivals, a year-on-year increase of 57.13%.

Changde saw an increasing number of tourists, thanks to two national scenic spots recognized recently. There were 95,800 tourist trips made at the Liuye Lake National Tourist Resort where tourists were attracted by intangible cultural heritage performances and special snacks. Taohuyuan, a 5A-level national scenic area announced recently, had 47,300 tourist arrivals.

Red tourism was booming in Xiangtan’s Shaoshan and Wushi. Visiting the return capsule of the Shenzhou-10 manned spacecraft at the Comrade Mao Zedong Memorial Hall in Shaoshan became a highlight. 
 
Many red tourism scenic areas were crowded with tourists, including Shazhou Red Tourism Scenic Area in Chenzhou; the First Military Regulation Square at Shatian, Guidong; the former site of the Southern Hunan Uprising Headquarters; the Southern Hunan Uprising Memorial Hall; Huang Kecheng’s Former Residence; and, Ouyang Hai’s Former Residence.

In recent years, Hunan has developed many winter tourism products, and hot springs have become an important choice for people to take a leisure vacation. Rucheng Fuquan Villa, Luoquan Hot Springs, Beihu Longnv Hot Springs, Yizhang Yiliu Hot Springs, Mangshan Forest Hot Springs Hotel, Suxian International Hot Springs Town, and Anren Longhai Hot Springs have become the best choices for winter travel.

Tourists had great fun while enjoying rime and snow scenery. Yunbing Mountain Scenic Area in Yongzhou has become a new tourist destination in the Pearl River Delta this year. Yangming Mountain has beautiful rim scenery due to high altitude. Many tourists visited Daxiong Mountain Scenic Area in Loudi, to explore an ice wonderland.

Rural tourism was booming during the holiday. In the first two days of the holiday, five key rural scenic areas received 18,900 tourist arrivals, a year-on-year increase of 32.94%. They included Zhushan Village, Laochehe Village, Morong Miao Village, Hangwu Miao Village, and Shibadong Village in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture.
