The photo above, taken on December 28, shows the Chinese merganser flying over the Shuangpai Reservoir of Yongzhou City. This is the 8th consecutive year that the Chinese merganser has been overwintering here.
The Chinese merganser is an endangered species under the national first-level key protection and is included on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species. There are only about 2,000 left.
In recent years, the Shuangpai County government has made great efforts on the construction of ecological civilization. The environment has been improving day by day. Numerous birds such as Chinese mergansers, silver pheasants, egrets, and mandarin ducks have been attracted to inhabit and multiply here. (Photo/Zhang Hong)
