Hunan’s Hengyang and the Philippines’ Legazpi became friendship cities recently. Zhu Jian and Noel Rosal, the mayors of the two cities, signed a letter agreement establishing the relationship.
Hengyang became a friendship city with Legazpi to boost “opening up” and the “Belt and Road” Initiative. The process began with a letter of intent in 2018. Since then, the two cities have enhanced friendly communication and mutual understanding, and promoted economic and trade cooperation. In March 2019, a contract for 1200 buses worth 140 million CNY was entered into between automobile companies of the two cities. This year, Hengyang and Legazpi collaborated in epidemic prevention and control, further deepening the ties of friendship.
The agreement has the two cities cooperating in agriculture, healthcare, and education. These efforts will boost friendly people-to-people exchanges and economic and trade interactions with the goal seeking mutual benefits and win-win results.
Hengyang had established friendship city relationships with 5 foreign cities: Rittoshi, Japan; Podolsk, Russia; Provari, Ukraine; Fuengiola, Spain; and, Calarast, Romania before adding Legazpi.
