A ceremony to deliver 662 three-wheeled electric waste collection vehicles was held in Changsha on December 24. These vehicles, with different bins for different types of household waste, will be put into use in residential areas across the city. This will meet the demand of solving the ‘last kilometer’ problem in household waste collection and transportation.

As one of the country’s 46 key cities to pilot the mandatory classification of household waste, Changsha has established a household waste sorting and treatment system, with improved processing facilities and increasing number of specialized transport vehicles.

The Changsha Urban Management and Law Enforcement Bureau launched a centralized waste collection vehicle procurement program. This is to avoid the situation in which waste is classified first and then mixed up during the processes of waste collection and transportation. Each community in the city will be equipped with such a vehicle.

These waste collection vehicles were developed by the Changsha Zoomlion Environment Co., Ltd. Hunan branch. They are blue and white in color, with uniform style, specification and logo. It adopts a pedal-operated device for rapid loading and uploading, and can carry four 240-litre waste bins.

“This kind of economical sanitation vehicle is suitable for short-haul waste transportation. It needs no porters for loading and unloading, which saves costs and is more efficient," said Zhu Haijun, the person in charge of the company.

After the handover ceremony, the Changsha Urban Management and Law Enforcement Bureau will strengthen guidance and supervision, to ensure that these vehicles are put into use and effect, and that the garbage classification, collection and transportation system is improved.
