Hunan Has 100 Pairs of International Friendship Cities

Mao Weiming, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee deputy secretary and Hunan acting governor, Khamphanh Pheuyavong, Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Oudomxay Provincial Committee secretary and Oudomxay governor, signed an agreement to establish friendly inter-provincial relations on December 22, 2020. So far, Hunan has 100 pairs of international friendship cities.

Oudomxay Province is located in the center of northern Laos. It is called the “Northern Heart” of Laos and borders China and Vietnam. It covers an area of 15,400 square kilometers, with 7 counties under its jurisdiction.  Muang Xay is the provincial capital. Its economy is dominated by agriculture, including rice, corn, and economic crops such as rubber and bananas. Oudomxay Province is a transportation hub in northern Laos. Muang Xay is a transportation hub in northern Laos connecting China, Vietnam, and Thailand, as well as the five Laos’ provinces of Luang Namtha, Phongsaly, Bokeo, Sainyabuli, and Luang Prabang.

In recent years, through the international friendship city platform, Hunan has cooperated with related countries in such fields as economy and trade, education, culture, science and technology, and health. Hunan has conducted exchanges and cooperation with them in a wide-range pattern, and with multiple channels and extended platforms. Hunan’s international reputation and influence was enhanced. And the implementation of the “Three Highlands and Four New Missions” strategy would be facilitated.

According to the agreement, Hunan and Oudomxay will continue to implement the important consensus reached by Chinese General Secretary Xi Jinping and Lao General Secretary Bunyang to build a community of shared future for China and Laos; uphold the spirit of good neighbor and good friend, good comrade and good partner; and, further deepen exchanges and cooperation in the fields of high-level mutual visits, economy and trade, investment, humanities, science, and education, and make positive contributions to the promotion of mutual social development.
