Mao Weiming, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee deputy secretary and Hunan acting governor, met with Friedrich Stift, Austrian mbassador to China, in Changsha on December 22, 2020.

Acting Governor Mao welcomed Ambassador Stift and his delegation to Hunan. He said that Hunan has a long history, superior location, beautiful scenery, and rich culture. It is an important agricultural, manufacturing, cultural, and tourism powerhouse in China. Since this year, Hunan has coordinated the COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as its core. It has shown a trend of steady progress, and stable and quality improvement on the whole. Hunan is now seizing such major opportunities as the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” initiative, the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the Rise of Central China policy; implementing the “Three Highlands and Four New Missions” strategy; accelerating the new development pattern construction; and, striving to promote high-quality development. This provides a broad space for cooperation and development prospects for countries in the world including Austria.

He hoped that the ambassador’s visit to Hunan will further deepen understanding and friendship; tap cooperation potential; strengthen high-level exchanges; promote cultural and non-governmental exchanges; advance industrial collaboration; deepen tourism cooperation; and, achieve win-win development and bring more benefits to the people of the two places.

Ambassador Stift remarked that Hunan has huge economic potential and profound cultural heritage, which are highly complementary to Austria's economy. Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Austria and China. Austria expected to keep strengthening cooperation with Hunan in the fields of economy, trade, culture and tourism on the basis of the existing friendly exchanges, and enhancing bilateral friendship.
