On December 21, the first Hunan-Jiangxi Border Areas Flower and Tree Fair was concluded in Liuyang’s Baijia Town, which is known as the “Hometown of Flowers and Trees in China”.

During the fair, Liuyang proposed to establish the Hunan-Jiangxi Border Areas Regional Forestry Ecosystem Alliance. Seventeen counties, county-level cities and districts in the Hunan-Jiangxi border areas will join hands to build a demonstration zone for green development and ecological civilization.

The 4-day fair was guided by the Hunan Provincial Forestry Bureau and Changsha Municipal Forestry Bureau; and, hosted by the CPC Liuyang Municipal Committee and the People’s Government of Liuyang City.

Seven theme activities were held to promote the green economic development of old revolutionary base areas on the border of Hunan and Jiangxi. They included: the establishment of a work consultation committee, a media tour, a flowers and trees exhibition, a flowers and seedlings industry development forum, and a music festival.

Baijia Town is one of Hunan’s first group of featured agricultural towns. More than 90% of the town’s farmers work in the flowers and trees planting industry, which has become a pillar industry for local industrial development and rural revitalization.

The flowers and seedlings industry is also the leading forestry industry in Liuyang. The city’s planting area of flowers and trees has reached 178,000 mu (about 11,866.67 hectares). More than 100,000 people work in the industry, generating an annual sales revenue of 4 billion yuan.

The alliance will establish long-term mechanisms of information sharing, work consultation, experience exchange, joint publicity, and joint prevention and control. This will further promote the coordinated development of counties and county-level cities on the border of Hunan and Jiangxi.
