The 4th Changsha Wangcheng Culter Fish Festival, or the Hunan Featured Fishery Industry Development Forum opened at the Qianlong Lake Resort, Wangcheng District, Changsha on December 16. More than 300 experts, scholars, industry representatives, and gourmets from all over the country gathered to discuss Hunan’s aquatic products development.

The culter fish festival is held annually in Wangcheng District since 2017. This year, the festival will last until December 27. A series of activities will be organized, including “culter fish promoted at communities”, livestreaming hosts’ tour of fish shops, winter fishing livestreaming, and a fish banquet.

On the opening day, the Hunan Qianlong Lake Investment Group signed contracts with more than 30 suppliers to supply and sell more than 100,000 kilograms of culter fish, with contract value amounting to more than 3 million yuan.

“The development goal of Hunan’s aquatic products is to achieve a total output value of 100 billion yuan by 2023. This requires a structural adjustment in fishery and aquaculture”, said Wu Yuan’an, a researcher with the Hunan Fisheries Science Institute. He introduced that Wangcheng culter fish has more tender meat and is more delicious compared with common freshwater fish, and is a fine variety of featured products.

Qianlong Lake has a culter fish breeding area of more than 6,000 mu (400 hectares). A whole industry chain covering incubation, breeding, cultivation, processing, sales, and logistics has been established there, leading the surrounding farmers to breed 25,000 mu (1666.67 hectares) of culter fish. The annual output value reached 2 billion yuan.

The theme of the forum was “Developing Featured Fishery Industries to Boost One-hundred-billion-yuan Industry’s Development”. Chen Xinghua, chairman of the Hunan Qianlong Lake Investment Group, shared practices on culter fish cultivation, brand building, and food safety at the forum. Many industry representatives, experts and scholars gave keynote speeches.
