Recently the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development issued the list of 20 national rural domestic sewage treatment demonstration counties (cities/districts) of 2020. Hunan’s Yuanjiang and Liuyang county-level cities made the list, according to the Hunan Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development on December 14.

The demonstration counties (cities/ districts) are required to:
-- formulate implementation plans;
-- coordinate domestic sewage treatment in urban and rural areas;
-- define domestic sewage treatment requirements and specific standards in accordance with local conditions;
-- explore and improve domestic sewage treatment models that meet local conditions; and,
-- further improve domestic sewage treatment level in rural areas.

All provincial housing and urban-rural development departments should increase efforts in rural domestic sewage treatment, and summarize and promote the experience and practices of the demonstration areas.

There are ten townships and one neighborhood in Yuanjiang City. A full coverage of sewage treatment facilities is achieved, with 18 sewage treatment stations and 181 kilometers of pipes. The provincial meeting on promoting the construction of rural sewage treatment facilities was held in Yuanjiang this June. Yuanjiang’s efforts in such work was affirmed at the meeting.

Liuyang City has built a batch of domestic sewage treatment plants and rural decentralized sewage treatment facilities. Sewage treatment has access to all townships (market towns). The sewage treatment facilities are operating normally, and the quality of discharged water meets required standards.
