The CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Foreign Affairs Commission Office and Kenya’s Meru County Government recently signed a letter of intent to establish a friendship relationship. The two sides, based on equality and mutual benefit, agreed to boost people-to-people communication and economic and trade exchanges and to carry out local-level exchange and cooperation in various fields.
Meru County, in central Kenya, has 6,936 square kilometers and a population of a little more than 1.35 million people. It has 9 administrative regions and several world-famous tourism destinations, such as Meru National Park and Mount Kenya National Park. It is one of Kenya’s most productive counties in terms of coffee, tea, and macadamia nuts, with a relatively fast population and economic growth.
Hunan and Meru have huge potential and broad prospects of cooperation. The bilateral communication and cooperation will contribute to the development of the Belt and Road Initiative, and enhance friendship between China and Africa. They will carry out exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, science and technology, culture, sport, agriculture, tourism, health, education, and talent development.
