Hunan’s largest single investment project, the Changsha Airport Reconstruction, Expansion, and Comprehensive Transportation Hub Project, was launched on December 3, 2020. Xu Dazhe, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee secretary, announced the start. Feng Zhenglin, Civil Aviation Administration of China CPC Leadership Group secretary and director, and Mao Weiming, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee deputy secretary and acting Hunan governor, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.

Zhang Hongbin, chief of staff of the Southern Theater Command Air Force, gave a speech. Xie Jianhui, CPC Hunan Provincial Standing Committee member and executive vice governor, presided over the ceremony. Provincial leaders Zhang Jianfei, Liu Lianyu, and Dai Daojin attended.

It was noted that the project is designed to meet the annual passenger throughput of 60 million passengers, and cargo and mail throughput of 600,000 tons. The main construction includes airport, air traffic control, fuel supply, and automobile gas station engineering. The total investment is about 43 billion yuan.
