The plaque-awarding ceremony of Hunan’s top ten cultural tourism landmarks in 2019 was held at the Taohuayuan Scenic Area in Changde on May 19. The 10 landmark scenic areas are: Wulingyuan in Zhangjiajie; Mount Hengshan in Hengyang; Langshan Mountain in Shaoyang; Yuelu Mountain in Changsha; Dongjiang Lake in Zixing; Fenghuang (Phoenix) Ancient Town in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture; Taohuayuan in Changde,; Hongjiang Ancient Commercial Town in Huaihua; Chinese Ceramic Valley in Liling; and, Liuzi Temple in Yongzhou.

The selection was hosted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Cyberspace Administration, and the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and undertaken by Rednet. Since its launching on November 12, 2019, it has attracted wide attention from all sectors of society. The province's 13 cities and 1 prefecture recommended about 50 scenic areas. The final list were selected out from 20 candidates, based on the results of 7.56 million public votes.

Lasting for seven months, the selection went through such processes as a launching ceremony, application, preliminary selection, public voting, expert review, result examination, and public announcement. The ten landmarks were finally determined based on their values of cultural study, aesthetics, tourism, and brand.
