On April 2 morning, Du Jiahao, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee convened the first plenary meeting of the Committee of Xiangjiang River Protection and Treatment in 2020. He underscored that 2020 is a crucial year for completely fulfilling three “three-year action plans” for protecting and treating the Xiangjiang River. It is imperative to comprehend the idea of “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”; remain committed to the same direction and strengthen in pollution prevention and treatment; focus on weak links; continue to make long-term efforts; take key initiatives in the crucial year; make all-out efforts to protect and treat the Xiangjiang River; and push Hunan’s ecological conservation and green development to a new level.

The video conference had sub-venues in 8 cities along the Xiangjiang River. Provincial leaders Xie Jianhui, Zhang Jianfei and Chen Wenhao attended the meeting at the main venue.

Since the launch of Hunan’s “No.1 Key Project” involving the Xiangjiang River environmental protection and treatment, Hunan has consecutively carried out three “three-year action plans”  and achieved remarkable results in blocking the source, treat the sediment, unclogging channels, adjusting the structure and setting up regulations. By the end of 2019, the proportion of sections meeting to the Class-Ⅲ standards along the Xiangjiang River accounted for 98.7% and all 39 sections along the trunk stream met the ClassⅡ standard. Hunan closed 1,563 poorly managed-polluting-small enterprises, 1,200-odd heavy-polluting businesses and completed the relocation and renovation work in the five key areas including Zhubugang of Xiangtan, Thirty-sixth Bay of Chenzhou, Qingshuitang of Zhuzhou, Shuikoushan of Hengyang and Xikuangshan of Loudi.

At the meeting, persons in charge of the Hunan Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, the Hunan Water Conservancy Department, Changsha City and Chenzhou City reported their respective work.
