A grand gathering to celebrate the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Dec. 18, 2018. CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Secretary Du Jiahao, together with other leaders in Changsha, tuned in the live stream, and listened to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s important speech at the gathering. Xu Dazhe, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee deputy secretary and Hunan governor, also tuned in it during his official trip in Beijing. 

 

Secretary Du asked all, especially leaders and cadres of the Party and government departments, to study the essence of the President Xi’s important speech. Study activities should be organized in enterprises, rural areas, government departments, schools, armies, and websites. He asked all to accurately comprehend the essence of Xi’s important speech and, to unify cognition on the great achievements of the 40-year reform and opening-up; on the precious experiences accumulated through reform and opening-up, especially “Nine Persistences”; and on the current situations and tasks of reform and opening-up. He required to enhance the "Four Consciousnesses", strengthen the "Four Confidences". To meet new demands of reform and opening-up in all respects, all people should take the initiative to stick to the direction of reform to develop the socialist market economy; push high-quality economic development; meet people’s need for a better life; boost modernization of governance system and ability; and, uphold and strengthen Party leadership. 

 

Du also claimed that, measures should be taken based on practical situations, to open new prospects for reform and opening-up. High-quality development should be highlighted, to carry out innovation-oriented opening and development strategy; to deepen supply-side structural reform; and to promote fundamental changes in the quality and efficiency. Priorities should be given to the three crucial battles in precaution and solving major risks, poverty elimination, and pollution prevention and control. As for implementing the rural vitalization strategy, the primary, secondary, and tertiary industries should be developed in an integrated way, to accelerate modernization of agriculture and rural areas. A new prospect of fully open industries will be formed through carrying forward “Five Opening-up Campaigns”; taking the advantages of the “Belt and Zone” strategic orientation; and strengthening cooperation with the “Belt and Road” countries. Efforts should be made centering on people, to improve people’s livelihood. The overall leadership of the Party that coordinates all side should be elevated and strengthened, to provide political guarantees for deepening reform and expanding openness.
