Development Plan for Bamboo Industries in Hunan

Bamboo forests in Hunan now cover 16.39 million mu (1.1 million ha.), second in China. Hunan plans to achieve bamboo resources industrial chain output value of approximately 100 billion CNY by 2022, according to information released by the Hunan Forestry Bureau on October 16.
 
Bamboo grows fast. It is versatile and highly-regenerative. Last year bamboo industries production value in Hunan was 11 billion CNY, and the processing conversion rate was 60%. Sales revenue was 28 billion CNY, and the entire industrial chain output value was 34.6 billion CNY. Currently Hunan has more than 4,000 bamboo processing enterprises. More than 20 major kinds of processed bamboo products can be found here, such as plywood, summer sleeping mat, and shoots, among others. Bamboo summer sleeping mats for health care account for 45% of China’s market.
 
Hunan will make greater efforts in the following aspects in order to achieve the two goals-the whole industrial chain output value of 57 billion CNY by the year of 2020 , and of approximately 100 billion CNY by the year of 2022.
·cultivating 100 leading processing enterprises including high-quality shoots, man-made lumber, furniture and craftwork, and waste utilization;
·providing support for 10 key bamboo industry counties with the bamboo forest coverage of over 400 thousand mu;
·building 5 bamboo industry clusters in central, northern, southern, northeast, and southwest Hunan respectively;
·establishing 3 major bamboo processing industrial belts in Taojiang, Suining, and Linxiang counties; and,
·constructing a series of bamboo forest leisure tourism centers with one at Cai Lun bamboo forest in Leiyang and another at Taohuajiang as demonstration projects.

The Hunan Forestry Bureau will focus on:
·improving raw material supply;
·highlighting park construction;
·strengthening enterprises cultivation;
·building unique brands;
·boosting scientific and technological support;
·improving infrastructure; and,
·intensifying guarantee measures, etc.
These measures will make Hunan a strong bamboo province from a major one.
