Beginning from February 10, the barcode system for imported retail goods for cross-border e-commerce has been applied and promoted across Hunan Province, according to the Changsha Customs. On that day, a batch of imported cosmetics with the barcodes passed customs clearance at the Changsha Huanghua Comprehensive Bonded Zone, marking the official launch of the barcode measure.

A barcode for imported retail goods for cross-border e-commerce is composed of a string of digits. It integrates the functions of coding, recognition, data acquisition and processing, and is applicable throughout the process from delivery to customer search, storage management, logistics, and after-sale service.

For consumers, these codes act as the "ID cards" of the commodities. Consumers can scan the barcode to obtain information about the foreign producers. Meanwhile, the e-commerce businesses can use the barcode information to manage stock control, goods allocation, and delivery, thus improving warehouse management and logistics efficiency.

A manger of a cross-border e-commerce company in Changsha said that, the barcodes enable her company to quickly and accurately identify and categorize the imported commodities during the sorting and packaging processes, and thus accelerating delivery of the goods.

Implementing barcode information declaration in the cross-border e-commerce supervision is helpful for the customs to roll out differentiated management, and promote sound and orderly development of cross-border e-commerce, remarked by the Changsha Customs.
