Hunan's Tea Exports Boom During January-July Period

Hunan's exports of tea increased 28.9% year on year to 32,000 tonnes in the first seven months of this year. The total export value was 630 million CNY, an increase of 26.7%, said the Changsha Customs Authority on August 17, 2025.

Currently, Hunan Province exports green tea, black tea, oolong tea, jasmine tea, Pu'er tea (ripe tea), dark tea, and other floral tea. Among them, green tea is the most popular one, with a total of 27,000 tonnes exported in the first seven months. The growth rate reached 34.2% and the total value grew 28.7% to 510 million CNY. Exports of black tea and jasmine tea amounted to 2,861.7 tonnes and 585.4 tonnes, respectively, representing increases of 14.9% and 6.7%.

Morocco, Russia, and Libya are top three export markets of Hunan tea. During the January-July period, Hunan exported 5,640.4 tonnes of tea to Morocco, rising 58% and with a value of 110 million CNY, up 79.4%. Exports to Russia totaled 5,579.2 tonnes while those to Libya surged 202.2% to 2,982.2 tonnes.

In the first seven months, Changsha exported 24,000 tonnes of tea worth 480 million CNY, up 26.3% and 20.3% respectively. This accounted for over 70% of Hunan Province's total tea exports in both volume and value, continuing to lead the province. The tea exports of both Xiangxi and Hengyang doubled. Xiangxi's exports of tea climbed 142.6% to 193.9 tonnes, whose value surged 211.2% to 6.286 million CNY. Hengyang's exports surged 693.4% to 96 tonnes, valued at 2.179 million CNY, marking an increase of 360.4%.
