Recently, the Changsha Customs Authority announced that Hunan exported 28,000 metric tonnes of tea in the first half of this year, marking a 33.6% year-on-year increase. The total export value reached 540 million CNY, up 30.4% year on year. Both export volume and value in this regard hit record highs compared with the same periods of previous years.
Exports of private enterprises maintained growth, accounting for over 90% of the total. During the January-June period, private enterprises in Hunan exported over 26,000 metric tonnes of tea, up 34.3%, taking up 93.7% of the province's total tea exports. The export value exceeded 500 million CNY, growing by 31.4% and constituting 93.4% of the province's total tea export value. The number of enterprises that had actual tea export performance increased by nine, with the Hunan Tea Group accounting for 42.9% of the provincial total while maintaining robust growth of 39.6%.
Morocco, Russia, and Libya emerged as primary importers of Hunan's tea. In the first half of the year, the province exported 5,062.4 metric tonnes of tea to Morocco, representing a 76.1% year-on-year increase, with the total value reaching 100 million CNY and up 98.1%. During the same period, exports to Russia amounted to 4,706.4 metric tonnes, valued at 77.501 million CNY, meanwhile shipments to Libya surged 193% to 2,637.1 metric tonnes, worth 51.664 million CNY, a 137.7% increase.
This year Hunan will boost its tea industry chain development from six key areas: policy coordination, cultivating stronger market entities, market expansion, tea-tourism integration, building an open cooperative industrial ecosystem, and strengthening industrial services. Efforts will be made to scale up and strengthen Hunan's tea sector, including supporting tea processing enterprises to extend their industrial chains and promoting Hunan tea domestically and globally. The province aims to achieve 7,500 CNY per mu (about 66.7 million hectares) yield in tea plantations, 26 billion CNY of agricultural output value, and over 200 million USD of exports. The province is committed to developing a comprehensive industrial chain with an output value of more than 150 billion CNY by 2027, achieving leapfrog development from a major tea-producing province to a powerhouse in the industry.
