Hunan's exports of automobiles reached 79,364 in the first five months of this year, an increase of 7% over the same period last year. The total export value grew 4% to 12.42 billion CNY, the Changsha Customs Authority announced on June 19.
In this April, 60 new energy vehicles (NEVs) produced by the Changsha BYD Automobile Co., Ltd. and 60 lithium batteries for this batch of vehicles were exported from Changsha to Brazil. The vehicle bodies and batteries were disassembled and packaged separately, and then shipped abroad in separate containers. This was the first time that domestic NEVs were exported to the Brazilian market with such a coordinated supervision mode for the export of lithium batteries.
Mode innovation geared up for provincial automobile exports. During the January-May period, Hunan exported 66,185 passenger vehicles, growing 3.8% and accounting for 83.4% of the provincial total. The export value was 5.96 billion CNY, accounting for 47.9% of the total. Changsha was the main source of the exported products, with the number and value of automobile exports respectively accounting for 58.2% and 78.6% of the total, followed by Xiangtan and Zhuzhou.
Exports of electric vehicles saw robust growth. In the first five months, the province's exports of electric vehicles increased by 36.3% and 26.8% in quantity and value respectively. Among them, plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles were the most popular overseas. During the period, Hunan exported 23,247 plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles and 9,599 electric passenger vehicles, up 6.9% and 277% respectively.
Malaysia, Mexico, Belarus, and the United Arab Emirates were top four markets for Hunan's automobile exports in the first five months. They received 11,672, 11,625, 11,513, and 7,213 exported vehicles respectively. During the same period, the province's exports of automobiles to Indonesia, the Philippines, India, and the Netherlands witnessed multi-fold growth.
Private enterprises remained the main force of the province's automobile exports. In the first five months, they exported 77,244 vehicles with an export value of 10.57 billion CNY, accounting for 97.3% and 85.1% respectively.
