Hunan's exports of "new three" products —new energy vehicles (NEVs), lithium-ion batteries, and photovoltaic (PV) products — posted robust growth in the first five months of this year. They achieved a combined export value of 6.84 billion CNY, a year-on-year increase of 55.5%, said the Changsha Customs Authority on June 17, 2025.
The Hunan Red Solar Photoelectricity Science and Technology Co., Ltd. signed an agreement with Nigeria this mid-May, to build the first localized PV module production line for the country. "Upon operation, the annual production capacity is expected to reach 600 MW. It can provide a basic guarantee for promoting the construction of distributed power stations in remote areas, industrial parks, and medical institutions," noted the company head.
The "new three" products export, as a representative new momentum, still witnessed outstanding performance under the current foreign trade situation. During the January-May period, the provincial NEV exports increased 26.8% to 4.08 billion CNY, while lithium-ion battery exports climbed 177.6% to 2.51 billion CNY. Private enterprises remained the export main force, up 64.7% to 6.73 billion CNY in the first five months, which accounted for 98.4% of the total value of Hunan's "new three" products exports during the same period.
Changsha was the major exporter of the "new three" products. It has exported 5.92 billion CNY during the January-May period, an increase of 60% and accounting for 86.6% of the total. Meanwhile, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hengyang City, and Shaoyang City exported 210 million CNY, 160 million CNY, and 160 million CNY of the "new three" products respectively, representing an increase of 32.6 times, 1.6 times, and 41.8 times.
Mexico, Indonesia, and Brazil were the top three export destinations. In the first five months, Hunan's exports of the "new three" products to Mexico and Indonesia reached 1.21 billion CNY and 740 million CNY respectively, growing 77.5% and 2640%. The province exported 650 million CNY of the "new three" products to Brazil. During the same period, exports to ASEAN, the EU, and Africa were 1.35 billion CNY, 990 million CNY, and 310 million CNY respectively, surging 911.8%, 174.8%, and 612.5%.
