Hunan's import and export value totaled 369.92 billion CNY in the first eight months of this year. The exports reached 215.86 billion CNY while the imports expanded 13.6% to 154.06 billion CNY. The scale of imports surpassed 150 billion CNY for the first time in the same period, the Changsha Customs authority said on September 13, 2024.
Hunan's trade with Brazil, Russia, South Africa, and other BRICS countries has maintained steady growth. Its import and export volumes with Africa remained the largest in central and western parts of China. During the January-August period, Hunan's trade with Africa amounted to 34.04 billion CNY, with the trade volume ranking eighth in China and topping the central and western parts of the country. Hunan exported 17.7 billion CNY of goods to Africa and imported 16.34 billion CNY from Africa. The import and export value to other BRICS countries grew by 1.6% to 66.9 billion CNY. Of which, there were 18.01 billion CNY, 14.22 billion CNY, and 11.44 billion CNY in imports and exports with Brazil, Russia, and South Africa, up 13.9%, 14.6%, and 28.7% respectively.
In the first eight months, the total import and export value of Changsha was 182.1 billion CNY, accounting for 49.2% of the provincial total. Between January and August, the total import and export value of Huaihua was 8.29 billion CNY, an increase of 58.5% year on year, whose growth rate continued to take the lead provincewide. During the same period, Chenzhou, Xiangtan, Zhuzhou, and Huaihua saw the import and export value of 33.19 billion CNY, 24.65 billion CNY, 15.97 billion CNY, and 8.29 billion CNY respectively, an increase of 17%, 30.7%, 30.9%, and 58.5%.
Hunan's construction machinery, automobiles, and the three major tech-intensive green products, or the "new three"—new energy vehicles (NEVs), lithium-ion batteries, and photovoltaic products—posted robust export growth. In the first eight months, the province exported 21.75 billion CNY of construction machinery products, an increase of 24.1%. The exported "new three" products valued 7.14 billion CNY, up 43%. The exported automobiles increased by 44.8% to 18.41 billion CNY.
