An exchange meeting for Hunan-Hainan cooperation to promote high-quality development of agricultural industrial chain was held in Changsha on June 22, 2024. The event aimed to push forward agricultural collaboration between Hunan and Hainan provinces, boosting the high-quality development of the whole agricultural industrial chains of the two provinces. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Hunan Province and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Hainan Province signed the "Memorandum of Implementing the Key Points of Agricultural Cooperation in the Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement between Hunan and Hainan Governments". A total of nine agricultural projects were signed on the site, including seven investment projects with an intent value of 1.812 billion yuan.

Hainan agricultural authority head introduced Hainan's tropical characteristics and efficient agricultural policy, welcoming Hunan enterprises to invest in Hainan. Wenchang City, Haikou Tanxian Agricultural Products Processing Industrial Park, and Danzhou Industrial Park were promoted respectively. Agricultural experts, entrepreneur representatives, and association representatives from the two provinces had in-depth exchanges and discussions on the  high-quality development of agricultural industrial chain, including such topics as technical cooperation, industries, production, and marketing.

The relevant person in charge of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Hunan Province noted that Hunan and Hainan provinces have shared a long history and broad space in agricultural cooperation. As early as the 1960s, Academician Yuan Longping carried out hybrid rice research in Hainan's Sanya. In recent years, agricultural cooperation between Hunan and Hainan has been expanding in scale and elevating in level. Hainan is the largest special economic zone in China and also an important seed research and breeding base nationwide. Relying on the South Breeding Base, Hunan and Hainan provinces will increase partnership in the fields of seed industry innovation, agricultural science and technology innovation, and circulation of agricultural products, to achieve greater results.
