A centralized commencement ceremony for Hunan's major cultural tourism projects in 2024 was held at Hengyang's Nanyue District, the main venue, on the afternoon of March 21. Eighty-two such projects have begun construction in the first quarter of this year.

In addition, four sub-venues in Changsha, Xiangtan, Changde, and Zhangjiajie cities joined the main venue to commence construction of their projects via video link. The projects included:
- Jinyue Lake Park and its cultural tourism complex in Nanyue District, Hengyang City;
- Fulin Cultural Tourism Complex at Fulin Town, Changsha City;
- Shaoshan Red Resources Training Center in Xiangtan City;
- Hunan Archaeological Research Base in Lixian County, Changde City (a project to trace the origins of Chinese civilization); and,
- A project associated with the China Chess Academy in Zhangjiajie City.

According to the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, a total of 29.896 billion yuan will be invested in the above-mentioned 82 projects. Seven of them have a combined investment of 9.397 billion yuan, each with capital varying from one billion yuan to five billion yuan. One of the projects has a total investment of 10 billion yuan. Of the total, there are 16 infrastructure projects worth 2.682 billion yuan; 58 cultural tourism projects worth 26.369 billion yuan; and eight projects relating to the cultural tourism sector worth 845 million yuan. These projects demonstrate large investment, good industrial performance and strong capabilities to drive economic development.

Hengyang takes the opportunity of hosting the third Hunan Tourism Development Conference to roll out 86 cultural tourism projects, with an investment totaling 75.335 billion yuan. In addition, Changsha plans to develop 183 major cultural tourism projects in 2024, with a total investment of 118.129 billion yuan. Eight of these projects began construction on March 21. Xiangtan will launch 107 cultural tourism projects, with a combined investment of 25.132 billion yuan. Eight of them began construction in the first quarter. Changde will unveil 28 cultural tourism projects, with a total investment of 7.272 billion yuan. Zhangjiajie will make arrangements for 38 cultural tourism projects, with an investment of 34.989 billion yuan. Eight of them worth 2.732 billion yuan have begun construction in the first quarter.
