The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MOA) recently released the second batch of 50 agro-product production cases featuring variety cultivation, quality improvement, brand building, and standard construction. Hunan has two cases shortlisted, namely, bamboo industry in Taojiang County and Dongjiang fish in Zixing City.

Yiyang's Taojiang County, known as the "hometown of bamboos" in China, ranks third in the bamboo stock volume domestically. In recent years, the county authority has highlighted the leading roles of policy, technology, green, market, and standard to consolidate and accelerate development of bamboos and bamboo shoots industry. There are 248 bamboo and bamboo shoot processing companies in the county, including one national-level and 7 provincial-level leading enterprises. These companies produce more than 400 kinds of bamboo products in 17 categories, building 15 green and high-quality brands. Taojiang's bamboo and bamboo shoot products have reached an overall pass rate of 100% in routine quality and safety tests for three consecutive years. In 2023, the comprehensive output value of Taojiang's bamboo and bamboo shoot industry was 15.521 billion CNY.

Chenzhou's Zixing City is the only fishery powerhouse in southern Hunan. Its Dongjiang fish, named after the production place—Dongjiang Lake, is renowned domestically. In recent years, Zixing authority has given policy support to the Dongjiang fish industry as a locally featured industry, striving to improve Dongjiang fish quality based on science and technology as well as standardization. It has also combined the Dongjiang fish brand with agriculture and tourism, targeting at the market demand precisely. The Dongjiang fish industrial chain has been extending constantly. There are more than 30 Dongjiang fish processing businesses in the city, including one national-level and 3 provincial-level leading agricultural enterprises. Besides, Zixing has the largest eel cultivation base and the only sturgeon caviar processing base in the province. In 2023, there were 204,800 mu (about 13,660 hectares) of Dongjiang fish breeding area, achieving an annual output of 36,700 tonnes. The comprehensive output value of the Dongjiang fish industrial chain approaches to 3 billion CNY, increasing income of 260,000 farmhouses by more than 100,000 CNY on average.
