Suoxi Valley Nature Reserve is situated in the center of Wulingyuan scenic zone. It occupies a total area of more than 147 square kilometers, being the largest valley among the three big scenic zones. Most of the geomorphic features of Suoxi valley are the same as that of Zhangjiajie and Mount Tianzi . They are mostly made up of quartzite and belong to the sandstone.
To its east is a large area of water-eroded caves, such as Huanglong Cave and Kwan-Yin Cave, etc. These caves are made of limestone. When it comes to rare animal species, there are more than 20 types found in Suoxi valley such as leopard, pangolin and giant salamander etc. There are more than 20 groups of macaque here numbering 1,000 altogether.
