Stewed chicken with Chinese chestnuts is a specialty for its fresh smell and unique taste in Wulingyuan which abounds with Chinese chestnuts.
The Chinese chestnut is known as the "king of dried fruits" due to its rich nutrition. Growing in mountainous areas, the nut fruit is crisp and sweet and brings a special flavor when stewed with chicken and duck.
According to Sun Simiao, a medical scientist in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), eating chestnuts is good for patients with kidney disease. It is also considered nourishing for spleen and liver.
