Mao Zedong Square

Mao Zedong Square is located in the center of Shaoshan City's core scenic area and takes its name from the bronze statue of Comrade Mao Zedong that stands there. The statue is 6 meters tall, with a pedestal height of 4.1 meters and a total height of 10.1 meters, symbolizing the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1. The bronze statue of Mao Zedong, dressed in a Zhongshan suit, with a "Chairman" badge on his left chest and a manuscript in his hand, recreates the dignified bearing of the great leader at the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China. Five Chinese characters "Comrade Mao Zedong" are engraved on the front of the bronze statue's maroon marble pedestal. The characters were inscribed in 1992 by Jiang Zemin, then general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), president of the People's Republic of China, and chairman of the Central Military Commission.
